Attorney Gretchen Ragains
Gretchen Ragains is a passionate and experienced criminal defense attorney at Church Langdon Lopp & Banet LLC, where she advocates for individuals facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. With a career spanning both defense and prosecution, Gretchen brings a well-rounded, strategic approach to every case she handles.
Gretchen began her legal journey at the Louisville Metro Public Defender’s Office, serving from 2016 to 2021. There, she focused on juvenile defense and mental health docket cases, developing a strong commitment to protecting the rights of vulnerable individuals. She then transitioned to the Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office from 2021 to 2023, where she prosecuted a broad spectrum of cases—including misdemeanors, felonies, and major felonies—giving her critical insight into how the state builds and tries criminal cases.
In 2023, Gretchen returned to criminal defense at the Fifer Law Office, and in 2025, she proudly joined the team at Church Langdon Lopp & Banet LLC, continuing her mission to provide powerful legal advocacy for those in need.
A Corydon, Indiana native, Gretchen earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University Bloomington and her Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. Outside of her legal work, she’s a proud mother of three, a dedicated soccer mom, and a dog mom to a spirited Doberman pinscher. She enjoys reading, traveling, and walking her dog whenever she’s not on the sidelines cheering for her kids.
“I love being a criminal defense attorney because everyone deserves someone in their corner—someone who will fight for their rights, tell their story, and advocate for a second chance. It’s not just about the law—it’s about helping someone feel seen, heard, and fought for. Helping people through their darkest moments reminds me why justice matters. The most meaningful part of what I do is giving someone hope when the world feels against them.” – Gretchen Ragains
